To Soon, Basquiat

In my art class final, we watched the film Basquiat which was dedicated to the famous artist himself. The film was expressive in explaining the concepts of homelessness, loneliness, and drugs. Basquiat was a fantastic artist that had numerous problems which prevented him from cementing his artistry intelligence in the eyes of others. Basquiat was a homeless black man that drew on the walls of buildings as a way of showing people his work. He went as far as to go into a diner pour syrup on the table and start drawing one of the waiters. His ideas were something new that the public enjoyed. The man was incredibly talented, but what prevented him from reaching his full potential was his overuse of drugs. He died from an overdose of heroin when he was only 27. The film portrayed the young black artist to always have cigarettes or joints in his hands. The film was very difficult to watch knowing that the only person that stopped him from becoming great was himself. He was illustrated as a person that did not have any friends, but in reality, he pushed all his friends away. Everyone that ever gave him something or did something for him either passed away or was out of his life very soon. Nonetheless, the artwork he did was marvelous. It was something new, and that is why so many people were attracted to it. I believe the movie did an excellent job of telling the life of Basquiat.Image result for basquiat filmImage result for basquiat film
