After a lengthy conversation in mostly English with my Arabic teacher I really started to understand the vast differences between The United States and Arab countries. My teacher teaches me from a school in Jordan. After finishing my lesson with her in Arabic. We started discussing the differences between her and my country in English. The main topic she talked about was the inequality of gender roles. She told me that the status of women was significantly below that of men. She elaborated by saying in America if a man has more than one wife he is shamed, while in Arab countries men are still allowed to practice polygamy, although it is far less common nowadays for this to happen. Another topic she had an issue with was the education system in regards to women. Most women go to college more so than men, but when they get married they, unfortunately, turn into wives that stay home. Luckily she is married, has a kid, and is an excellent teacher.
